Easter 2024.
When is Easter Sunday 2025? How the date is determined each year
Easter is fast approaching.
Easter dates 1950 to 2050
For Christians, it's a time to celebrate their belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. For non-Christians, it's a time to hunt for colorful eggs left by the Easter bunny.
This year, Easter will be celebrated on April 20.
But the date varies each year. Here's a look at why that changes and what to know about the holiday.
How is the date of Easter determined each year?
Easter Sunday always occurs on the first Sunday after the Paschal Full Moon, the full moon that occurs on or after the March or spring equinox, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.
In the Gregorian calendar, it is always observed on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25.
When is Orthodox Easter?
Easter can be observed between April 4 and May 8 in the Eastern Orthodox Church, which follows the Julian calendar.
This year, Orthodox Easter also falls on April 20.
That won't happen again until 2028, when both celebrations will be April 16, per the Old Farmers Almanac.
